The Molecular Detective® - ASAP Analytical Infrared Detector  The Molecular Detective® is the brand name for the ASAP Analytical Infrared Detector for the Agilent GC. The Brand name Molecular Detective® was coined as name that provides a visual description of the unique capabilities of the ASAP IRD. The ASAP IRD takes on the role of a Molecular Detective identifying and confirming that an element, compound or mixture are indeed what they appear to be in terms of their definite chemical constitution. It offers true Molecular Identification. In the last few years the need for comprehensive scientific techniques, tools and equipment has grown tremendously, in most Analytical Laboratories, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC- MS) are the most widely used techniques in the analysis of controlled substances. The technique of Infrared Spectroscopy has also been used as a confirmation method for the identification of organic compounds in many labs, due to the uniqueness of infrared spectra in very similar organic molecules.    GC-FTIR spectroscopy is characterized by scanning quickly enough to obtain IR spectra of peaks eluting from the capillary columns, unlike dispersive IR spectrometers. Thus this technique combines the separation power of GC with the identification power of IR. The Molecular Detective®’s goal is to enhance the results of existing analytical techniques of the Gas Chromatograph and the Mass Spectrometer by adding an instrument that can identify substances at the molecular level. Thus, the ASAP Infrared Detector - Molecular Detective® has been designed from the chromatographer’s point of view. The result is an instrument that requires a minimum of bench space with optimized, dedicated optics for highest sensitivity. IRD software is integrated into GC software and provides efficient instrument control and data acquisition. Please browse our website to learn more about the Molecular Detective®!
